The 2023 Sickle Cell Kickoff Luncheon was held at Golden Corral in Dothan on Monday, June 19, 2023, WORLD SICKLE CELL DAY. The theme this year is Building and Strengthening Global Sickle Cell Communities, Formalizing New-born Screening and Knowing your Sickle Cell Disease Status”, a call to recognize the first step (understanding the genotype in infants and adults) in fighting sickle cell disease.

We had 46 participants with representatives from The Virgil Family (Our 2023 Sickle Cell Warriors), Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpha, A.M.E. Women’s Missionary Society, Community First Realty, County Line Baptist Church, Oliver Crawford, Jr., MD, Delta Sigma Theta, Eureka Club, Eureka Legacy Foundation, First Missionary Baptist Church, Men’s Civic Club, Kappa Alpha Psi, Les Vingts Socialete Club, New Bethel Baptist Church, North Highland Baptist Church, Omega Psi Phi, Order of Eastern Star, Phi Beta Sigma, Precious Pearlz, SEASCA BOD, Senior Divas, Ta Seti, Zeta Phi Beta. All participants received a Certificate of Appreciation.

The 16th ANNUAL EDUCATION SERIES will be dedicated to the memory JOHNSON HAYNES, JR., MD who entered a relationship with us in 2007 to begin our awareness activities. Our webinar will be presented by the Johnson Haynes, Jr., MD Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at the University of South Alabama.
